The Defender Property is a fully surveyed, forty (40) Acre Mineral property located in Sierra County, New Mexico. The property was surveyed and verified in and 2022. Accessible with high clearance 4WD. 20+ miles of dirt road to the site.
The Defender mine site is a documented gold producing property. The site is estimated to have last been working in 1939. The site was located in 1885 and produced gold with silver and nickel which made the processing expensive.
Very rare, one of a kind, and unmolested property. Possible development for placer gold mines. Historically known for gold, silver, cobalt.
Subsurface workings are estimated at roughly 1,200’ with extensive stoping. Gold has been taken from the washes for the past 90 years. Quantities are reported as small, however, enough to support two homesteads on the property.
Surveyors in 2022 reported gold bearing limonite with heavy skarn material. There is visible gold in the oxidized iron. The main shaft is clear but will need a new ladder.
The main wash has been casually worked for gold. The material is heavy with black sand and silt. Gold recovered is reported to be tumbled smooth and in small nuggets. There has been no flake reported, which indicates the source of the gold is far upstream.
There are many structures in the area. The area is very remote with no services.
