Legal Description:
Orphan Widow - MRO
Serial: MT102155342
Powell County, Montana
W ½ of Lot 6 of the NW ¼ of SEC 5 T8N R6W. 100% MRO
The property has been appraised at $110,000 based at 0.1% value of surface and/or subsurface reserves.
The Orphan Widow is a fully surveyed, Twenty (20) Acre Mineral property located in Powell County, Montana.
An improved, clean dirt road leads south out of Elliston to the Viking Mine, sometimes referred to as the Orphan Widow or View Mine, this property is inclusive of the entire mine site. There is a workshop and tipple in front of the larger mine, and a smaller, more intact workshop/assay house near the other adit and shaft.
The mines on the property have been historically worked for gold and silver.
The ores around the mine show silver rich galena and some small veins of native gold. The claim is set in the heart of the Ontario (Elliston) mining district and surrounded by thick, lush, green forest. It is a very private area.
The workings are documented to be cut onto a rich lode of gold bearing ore that is from 14 inches to 7 feet wide and runs to a fault line where the richest gold ore is defined at 8 ounces to the ton.
The mine was last actively worked in the 1940s when the War Act forced closure. The owner ordered the entrance blasted to prevent intrusion on the workings. The mine entrance was noted as "collapsed" in 1976 when surveyed by the USGS. A 1934 report from the Montana Butte Standard noted that the Viking Mining Company was again shipping gold and silver ores averaging $300 per ton in gold and silver. In 1934, Gold was $26 per ounce and silver was less than $1 per ounce at the time.
The 2014 survey reports noted that there were dumps that have remained unmoved or disturbed in the past 40-50 years. Gold with quartz and granordite host rock was common near the rock face above the collapsed adit. Additionally there were samples of quartz with visible stringers of gold found in the old assay house.
There is running water on the property, this could be utilized for operations or for drinking water if properly treated. Riparian rights apply to water and timber.
The Orphan Widow property was professionally surveyed and documented in 2022. Included in the sale are technical mining reports, assays, and documented mineral assets.
No permitting is included or implied.
