including an example by Utamaro or Utamaro II, depicting two women seated in a boat or ferry, with a male steering the vessel as another pulls the line toward shore, signed "Utamaro hitsu" lower right, above kawame seal and publisher's seal for Yamaguchiya Tobei, and a set of two unidentified examples showing a festival or courtly precession, with one depicting six men with swords and spears marching ahead of a seventh man with similar items and an oni mask, followed by three men in a dragon or Kirin costume, and the other depicting grooms or retainers wearing eboshi, and leading three horses, ahead of two samurai, including one in court attire, and two more retainers. Two unframed, the processional examples under glass in matching wooden frames. 19th/early 20th century. Framed examples 6 3/4" x 19 3/4" sight, 7 3/4" x 20 3/4" OA, Utamaro example 10" x 14 1/2", the other 13" x 8 3/4". <i>Fair to good condition, minor to moderate toning and scattered stains, Utamaro example with some minor creases, undescribed example with a repaired tear, and area of loss along bottom edge, with later reinforcement paper backing.
