All of the items up for auction came from the Estate of Charles Johnson Post, Artist and Journalist. Post gained modest renown for his stunning collection of Spanish American War paintings that chronicled his own Cuban wartime experience in the late 1800's. Many of Posts war works have been exhibited in the Smithsonian Institute and are now housed in military and maritime museums across the United States. Post also authored "The Little Ware of Private Post", an intimate autobiographical account of the war. Charles was an artist-journalist and editoral writer with the Associated Press. Directed the film "The Making of a Sailor" for the Navy Department. As an artist, Post was assigned by the Associated Press to follow and sketch the Spanish American War which involved going up San Juan Hill with Teddy Roosevelt. When he returned to the states, he proceeded to paint these sketches. When Post died, his daughter, Phyllis inherited his estate. When Phyllis died, she named Holly E. Thompson (her favorite niece) as benefactor. Holly passed on the 1st of December 2021 and ownership was passed to Holly's husband Paul K. Thompson. Paul has decided to share Charles Johnson Post personal art collection and manuscripts with the world.
