Here’s a sporty little car...
Made by The Cobra Shop (Kev Rowse) 1994.
Running a 302 V8 Windsor, C4 Auto Transmission and 3.08.1 Diff.
Disc brakes, Dragway alloys
This is the first car produced by "The Cobra Shop" as is attested to by the under-bonnet build plate. This Build No.1is finished in Pimento Red with Cobra trademark twin white stripes. It sits on a set of Dragway alloy wheels and features chrome sidepipes (non functioning), chrome front nudge bar and rear nerf bar, a polished aluminium quick-fill fuel filler and a chrome rollbar, All Cobra indicia. Inside, the twin bucket seats are covered in black leather, there's a full set of AutoMeter gauges, a woodrim steering wheel and an Apline stereo. A detachable roof and a set of wind wings finish the features. The Pimento Red paint represents pretty well with a few stone chip here and there. while the workmanlike black cockpit is in good conditions with just a slight air of patina about it. Under the fibreglass bonnet there is a 302ci Ford Windosr V8 engine hooked up to a Ford C4 three-speed automatic transmission, which is activiated by a B&M shifter on the high center console, a 9"diff is fitted so completing the package. This 1994 build Cobra also wears a 1998 "Queensland Modified" compliance plate, confirming it can be registered in the sunshine state. So, this is a typical Cobra repliace in configuration, presents well, has room for detail improvement and is sure to be lots of fun to drive. Previously on full Victorian registration, this 1994 Cobra replica is being offered for sale here unregistered.
On of the most enduring of automotive legends is the Cobra, created by Texan Carroll Shelby in the early '60s by combining the US muscle of the Ford small-block V8 engine with a suitably modified English sports car chassis. The original 289 Cobra was a winner both on the street and track, taking on - and beating- Europe's best in the mid 60's. The original small block V8 was later replaced by the 427ci big block and, with the bodywork suitably pumped up, the Cobra delivered shattering performance. With original examples commanding huge prices around the collector car world, an entire industry of Cobra replicas has developed over the years. Cobra recreations are blank slates for their owners, meaning they can choose virtually any powertrain and modifications of their liking while retaining the iconic shape. There are obvious advantages to owning a replica of a classic car. First, it does not cost a fortune (only the fortunate few can afford a real Cobra these days). Second, one does not have to worry about damaging an irreplaceable piece of history. Besides, it can be modified to the owner;'s desire with no guilt conscience and provides a great deal of fun to be had by an owner at Track days, club events or simply those wanting to enjoy the driving experience again.
