Lead Arthur Briscoe etching Ten Knots
Description
Arthur Briscoe 1873-1943 ,etching titled Ten Knots and published in 1926. Sight measures 5 x 7 inches and overall 10 1/4 x 11 3/4 inches. Great condition. Signed & titled in the plate. Artist bio bellow Etcher of marine subjects, painter in oil and watercolour. Born in Birkenhead, son of a prominent Liverpool businessman. Educated at Shrewsbury School and after travelling with his father to America and Japan, studied at the Slade School of Fine Art under Frederick Brown and Henry Tonks (q.q.v.) and then at Julian's Atelier, Paris. His first solo exhibition was held at the Modern Gallery, Bond Street, 1906. He then exhibited extensively including: Royal Academy, Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, New English Art Club, Fine Art Society, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. Elected A.R.E, 1930; R.E, 1933 and R.I. 1935. He wrote and illustrated 'A Handbook on Sailing', and provided illustrations for the Illustrated London News.
