2017 Shelby Daytona replica - Ground up build completed in 2017 - Guardsman Blue with Wimbeldon white stripes like original - Ford Racing 5.0L V8 engine - Tremec 5 speed manual transmission - Air conditioning - 17” Dragway custom wheels - Previously QLD registered and certified ICV This Shelby Daytona coupe is closely related to the infamous Shelby Cobra roadster, loosely based on its chassis and drive-train developed and built as an advanced evolution. It was engineered and purpose built for racing, specifically to take on Ferrari and its 250 GTO in the GT class. Only six original Shelby Daytona Coupes were ever built, all as race cars, between 1964 and 1965. With the Shelby Daytona, Shelby became the first American constructor to win a title on the international scene in the FIA International Championship for GT Manufacturers in 1965. This car is a replica, built here on the Gold Coast as a street legal tribute to the original cars. The car was built over a number of years starting in 2008 and first registered in 2017. The body and chassis are from ‘Cobra kits, Gold Coast’ The body of the car is finished in Guardsman Blue metallic with Wimbeldon white stripes just like the first of the original cars was. The car has perspex fixed side windows with vent sliders and side pipe heat shields to give the appearance of the originals. The look is completed externally with a set of Dragway chrome wheels measuring 17x8” up front and 17x10” in the rear. Inside the car is all business but neatly finished with a few extra creature comforts. The cabin is certainly not spacious, if you’re over 6 foot tall or on the larger side, you should probably count yourself out as you will struggle to drive the car comfortably for any period of time. The seats are fixed back buckets and there is a 6 point roll cage for safety. The dash is filled with period look VDO gauges. To make things a little more comfortable there is ‘Vintage Air’ air conditioning and a touch screen infotainment system with reverse camera. If you flip up the reverse opening clam shell hood you will find a Ford Racing 5.0L V8 engine with GT40 aluminium heads. The engine is controlled by an Autronic engine management system. The transmission is a Tremec T5 5 speed manual and power is fed to the rear wheels with a Ford 8 ¾ limited slip diff with double wishbone independent suspension. Springs are provided by King springs with AVO 22 shocks front and rear. Giving the car a nice rumble is a set of tuned extractors with 2 ½ ” pipes, through the side pipe head shields and exiting out the rear. The car has previously been on full QLD registration and registered under the ICV scheme.
