In Aztec mythology, Xolotl was a god of fire and lightning, commonly depicted as Dog headed man and was a soul guide for the dead; Xolotl is the canine brother and twin of Quetzalcoatl, sons of virgin Chimalma. This Sitting dog presents an elongated snout, deep carved eye sockets and a pair of round ears, its pose is calm, tranquil, shows a long sinuous tail, its front legs are separated from the body, paws present long claws. This dog sits on a heavy base, rectangular, presents various tool marks on the densely pecked surface, intense brown colored mineral deposits remain on the otherwise clean surface.
