The Mauser C96 is often celebrated as the first Commercially successful semi-automatic pistol ever produced, setting the stage for the following explosion in popularity of self-loading sidearms. Often called the Mauser “Broomhandle” on account of its unique grip shape, the iconic shape and history of the pistol has made it an incredibly popular pistol for collectors. This pistol is an incredibly unique example. It started life as an M1921 “Bolo” made in the interwar period in compliance with the Treaty of Versailles. These pistols were popular Amongst the Bolshevik government in the newly formed USSR, spawning their nickname. The Bolsheviks and Red Army purchased a number of these in the 1920s, and this example was likely originally part of that contract. Likely ending up in North Korean hands as military aid, this example was captured June 10th 1951, during the UN May–June 1951 counteroffensive, evidenced by the date carved into the grip. This pistol is extremely fortunate to retain the original holster, as well as the Capture papers accrediting the capture to PFC Arnold B Murrary of the 1st Cavalry Division. The capture paper has been folded, but is still complete and entirely legible. The holster is missing one clasp on an ammo pouch. The pistol itself is in condition typical of a likely ~30 years of military service between the Early 20s to the early 50s. Most of the finish is gone, and pitting has occurred on multiple parts throughout the barrel and frame. This pistol is an incredible piece of American military history, and the inclusion of the capture papers makes it a truly one-of-a-kind piece. This one of 50 cased pairs of Colt Tombstone Centennial Single Action Army revolvers are unturned & unfired. They were made in 1979 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the City of Tombstone, Arizona Territory. The left side of each Barrel is covered in floral scroll marked style engraving with dates in the ribands on the left with "TOMBSTONE CENTENNIAL/ SPECIAL EDITION" and "COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY .45" markings. Frame is also marked in a floral scroll style engraving with "1 of 300" in a riband near the trigger. Each unfluted cylinder has a raised roll marked engraved scene of a stagecoach robbery and a tombstone marked "FOUNDED/ 1879/ THE TOWN TOO/ TOUGH TO DIE". The engravings also extend to the back strap and butt. Both are fitted with smooth walnut grips. The mint unfired pistols are cased in the wood Colt factory case w/key and rectangular medallion engraved with "TOMBSTONE CENTENIAL SPECIAL EDITION". Only 300 of these were ever made, which included 200 single pistols and 50 cased sets of consecutive numbered pairs as this set is. These pairs are very highly sought after by collectors worldwide due to their extreme low production quantity and the massive appeal of the story of Tombstone and the OK Corral. The S&W M&P military revolvers produced from 1942 to 1944 had serial numbers with a "V" prefix, and were known as the "Smith & Wesson Victory Model". During World War II 590,305] of these revolvers were supplied to the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa under the Lend-Lease program, chambered in the British .38/200 caliber already in use in the Enfield No 2 Mk I Revolver and the Webley Mk IV Revolver. Most Victory Models sent to Britain were fitted with 4-inch or 5-inch barrels, The 5-inch barrel, which this example is, was standard production after 4 April 1942. The revolver has proofs on the cylinder and barrel, as well as a “Not English Make” Stamp directly above the “Made In USA” The Lanyard loop is present and swivels freely, the parkerized finish is in good condition, as well as the case hardening on the trigger and hammer. The Type 14 Nambu is a semi-automatic pistol produced between 1926 and 1945. The standard issue sidearms for Japanese officers, the Nambu type 14 is a rather unique looking pistol chambered in the rather unique 8x22mm. This is a great example of the war configurations before changes were made to the pistol. These features include a slotted cocking knob and a smaller trigger guard. This pistol was made in the Chigusa arsenal and has the Japanese date code 3.8. Built on a Mauser 98 Action, this classic H&H rifle spares no expense in combining inter-war English artisanal gunsmithing with high end features for practical marksmanship. This rifle was made in 1921 and is in remarkable condition for its age, with very little signs of use and handling. The 23 Inch barrel is complimented by a sling loop, a ramped front sight post/bead, and a rear notch for a 50-250 yard zero as well as a flip up for 350 meters. Along the top of the barrel is stamps reading Holland & Holland 98 New Bond St London. The receiver has a knurling on the front receiver band and mounting for the period Carl Zeiss Zielvier Scope, which is serialized matching the Rifle. The rifle has a comfortable 14.5” length of pull and sports an adjustable set trigger. Included in the original case is 45 rounds of .240 Apex, as well as 2 black leather cartridge holders and Copies of the original hand receipt addressed to a Sir Shuckburgh and dated 1921. The Springfield Armory Krag-Jorgensen rifle was the first smokeless powder rifle used by United States Armed Forces. The most distinctive feature of the rifle is its magazine. The integral magazine features a hinged cover with a spring follower, that when opened exposes a loading gate underneath the action for rounds to be placed directly into. This was a State-of-the-Art Rifle in the day & it is still going to be a “Bullseye Machine” for the Lucky Winner! This one has the type of wear marks on what appears to be the Original Stock & Original Bluing that would be expected on a 67 yr. old gun. It has no visible rust to be found, most bluing is still there and mechanically it appears to be in EXCELLENT condition. A genuine vintage Zippo Lighter engraved to commemorate service in Vietnam. The lid on one side is Engraved “Vietnam 67-68 Vung Tau” and the opposite side is engraved “Live By Chance Love by Choice Kill by profession”. The body is engraved with “Touche?” as well as a suggestive scene depicting two pairs of feet, and the opposite side is engraved “I love the F***ing Army and the Army loves F***ing me” The insert has been cut vertically, possibly to aid in lighting a pipe. This Original West German Army Visor Hat is in remarkable condition. The consignor stated their father was stationed in West Germany after WWII. In either 1955 or ’56, their father “Traded Caps” with a West German Soldier as was tradition during that period. The Cap itself is in terrific shape for being at least 66 years old. It was made by Heinrich Balke, a premier hat making company that dates back to 1888. It appears not near as many of these military caps were made by them as apposed to the Bamberger Company. These were produced in limited numbers from 1995 to 1997 and feature stainless steel construction with a knurled barrel ring, swiveling safety and pocket clip. To operate the barrel must be pulled and bent into the "L" shaped. Included is the original pouch which when worn on the belt resembles a pocket knife sheath. This Uberti No. 3 Russian is a Very Accurate Reproduction of the Smith & Wesson No. 3. It has correct Case Hardened Coloring on the Hammer, Trigger, Trigger Guard & Top-Break Lock. Amongst the models for export between 1874 and 1878 Smith & Wesson produced about 60,000 of this splendid .44 Russian for the Czar Empire and both the Turkish and Japanese governments. The Russian also originated from the model S&W N°3 using the main features. The Russian was considered to be the most beautiful pistol of that era. The Condition of this Revolver is EXCELLENT with only the slightest holster wear at the muzzle & a couple very small, light “scuffs” all on the left side of the barrel. It has been fired so it does have a turn ring. The practice of issuing peace medals to indigenous American tribes first started in colonial French and British trade. The policy of presenting medals at treaty signings and other formal ceremonies was continued by George Washington, and lasted until the presidency of Benjamin Harrison. The Silver striking of the John Adams Indian Peace Medal was produced between 1825 and 1829 (during the presidency of John Adams son, president John Quincy Adams). No Indian Peace Medals with president John Adam's likeness were issued during his term as presiden. This example is one of the more “Common” yet still exceptionally scarce larger 76mm medals. This lot Very Cool consists of items from opposite sides of the Globe. Here’s what you get: - One Native American Plains Indian Arrow. The arrow is 27.25” in length with “side notch” stone arrowhead. The Arrowhead & the fletching are secured with sinew & treated with pitch. - Next up are 3 East African Arrows with Steel Arrowheads. They range from 27”- 29.5” in length. All 3 Arrowheads are roughly forged, 2 of them being the insert type, while the 3rd being the wrap-around type. All three Arrows Appear to have been refletched at some point as evidenced by irregular pitch patterns on the shafts as well as the fletching appears to be Turkey Feathers. One would have to think these are real & real old for someone to take the time to do this. - Lastly, we have an African Short Spear. The spear’s length is 29” and is fitted with a Steel insert type Spearhead with a 6” edge length. The opposite end is fitted with a flat-edged blade with a 1” width. Both ends are crudely forged which is true to form for an authentic period piece like this. The entire shaft is covered in leather with ornate wrappings on either end that are tucked neatly into slits in the main wrap so no loose ends are evident. The VZ 98/22 is a Czechoslovak-designed, full-sized, bolt-action rifle, designed and produced in Czechoslovakia. It replaced the Gewehr 98 rifles purchased from Germany after the Treaty of Versailles. The rifles were quickly replaced by the shorter Vz. 24, and were sold to various other nations, most notably Iran and Turkey, where they remained in service to World War II era and beyond. This example is one of the examples that was sold to Turkey, as evidenced by the numerals on the rear sight. This rifle is in very good condition, with a beautiful walnut stock and wear consistent of use and installation of a bayonet. During World War I, many Vetterli Vitali M1870/87 rifles were converted to share the same 6.5mm smokeless powder round used by the 1891 Carcano by adding a 6.5mm barrel lining and a modified M91 Carcano magazine. The barrel sleeving was called the "Salerno method"; The bolt face was also machined to accept the smaller diameter 6.5 mm cartridge head, and the firing pin shortened. These conversions were used for rear echelon troops (guards, training, etc.) and were rarely, if at all, fired with standard 6.5 mm military ball ammunition. After WWI, many of these rifles were assigned to the colonies of Tripolitania, Fezzan and Cyrenaica (Libya) as well as Eritrea and Somalia. These rifles were used again in the Second Italo-Ethiopian War, mostly by native African soldiers. This example has a production date of 1881 on the barrel and appears to have had a minor chip repaired on the stock near the magazine. Rifle includes a leather sling and is fortunate enough to retain the original cleaning rod. Bcause this rifle was made before 1898 it is considered an antique and does not require an FFL to facilitate the sale of. This the 4th Installment Letter was written on April 18th & 19th, 1862. It seems there was a break in the action for 1st Lieutenant James W. Archer. It seems to deal mostly with personal & financial affairs and goes into details. For one, he gets paid $273.00 every 60 Days. As with most of his other letters, he shows his deep concern for his wife’s (Lizzie) and children’s wellbeing. He also states he is sending $500.00 to her father to invest for her as well as $25.00 for herself. He further states he will soon settle all debts so if something happens to him, she will be fine. He also describes the parting look at Island No. 10 and it was so well fortified that if they (his regiment) were defending it, could not have been taken without “an immense loss of life”. He states the secesh had cut the Levee near Fort Pillow in order to thwart the advancement of the Union Army which has left all the farms along the Mississippi. In mid-1940 with the US involvement in WWII becoming increasingly inevitable, the U.S. Navy alongside all other branches of our armed forces found themselves evaluating the projected demand for arms. Recognizing that demand for the standard issue m1911a1 would soon outweigh supply, they set out to find more affordable options to supplement gaps in their armories. It was determined that the most suitable gun for this purpose was the Colt Police Positive .38 Spl. revolver with a 4" barrel. Modifications were made to these revolvers to make them more affordable, most notably the introduction of “Colt Wood” Plastic Grips. These revolvers were popularly issued to pilots and air crews. The Uberti Top Break is true to the original, designed by Major George Schofield at the Smith & Wesson factory in 1869. The Schofield revolver was created as a cavalry pistol. Its efficient, break-open design could be operated one-handed. That made it easy to eject all six spent cartridges and reload the single action revolver while on horseback. The U.S. Cavalry was slow to see the merits of the top break, but Jessie James, John Wesley Hardin, and Wild Bill Hickok saw the fast-reloading capability as a distinct advantage in their line of work. This example sports a 5” barrel and is fortunate enough to come in the original box. One of the more scarce and later Turkish refurbishments of WWI Gew 98 Rifles, this “ATF” Rifle was rebuilt in 1954 by the Askeri Tufiki Fabrika in Turkey. It is believed that only between 10,000 & 15,000 Mausers were refurbished from this government commission, with an unknown amount actually getting imported to the US. Originally designed to supplement rear echelon troops during the second World War, these light weight and remarkably handy rifles delivered better and more reliable firepower than the 1911 service pistol many of the troops were originally armed with. These rifles became so popular with soldiers towards the middle of the war, that many outfits were issued these more over the standard issue M1 Garand rifles. The rifles were easier to carry for long rucks, ammunition was lighter and easier to transport yet the power of the 30 carbine was still more than adequate at engagements within 100m.This example was made by Underwood but the receiver is also stamped “WTA” Meaning it was assembled at the Winchester Factory. This example was spared the post war safety modification, and retains the original push button. Barrel is stamped blue sky and there is a hairline crack in the wrist of the stock. The Martini Cadet is a centrefire single-shot cadet rifle produced in the United Kingdom by Birmingham Small Arms and W.W. Greener for the use of Australian military Cadets. Although considered a miniature version of the Martini–Henry, the internal mechanism was redesigned by Auguste Francotte to permit removal from the receiver as a single unit. This lighter was made to celebrate service aboard the USS Herbert J Thomas, which served in both the Korean War and Vietnam. One side of the ody is engraved with an image of the ship as well ass “U.S.S. Herbert J. Thomas DDR-833”. The engraving is through the nickel plating and the contrast with the bare brass is notably striking. The lid on this lighter is loose and the insert has oxidized somewhat. When Colt reintroduced their No 3 Derringer in 1959, they contracted Butler Association inc as a manufacturer to build them under license. This partnership lasted until 1978, when the line was discontinued, leaving Butler with remaining tooling and leftover parts. Butler would continue to manufacture these, without the Colt name, for an additional 2 years until production finally ceased in 1980. Because the production time of these was significantly shorter than the colt licensed versions, these are much rarer and an interesting part of Colt mfg history. This Colt Model 1903 New Army and Navy Revolver was manufactured post-1903 with a total of 12,500 being delivered to the U.S. Army with serial numbers ranging from 200,000 to 212,500. This makes it one of the least common US Army service pistols on the 20th century. The cylinder, the left side of the frame, and the butt all have an inspection stamp of "R.A.C", which are the initials of the Arms Inspector, Rinaldo A. Carr. The Lee Enfield Pattern of rifles was the workhorse rifle of the British empire and Commonwealth for the better part of the 20th century. One of the more common pocket pistols found in the "Old West" were the Sharps four-barrel derringers. They came in .22 rimfire, and their four barrels slide forward to load and unload. These first model pistols had brass frames and fired the recently introduced .22 Rimfire metallic cartridges. These pistols were made by "C. Sharps and Co", and are sometimes classified by modern collectors as a pepperbox, despite not featuring revolving barrels but rather a revolving firing pin. This example is remarkably in working order, with a completely functional rotating striker and secure lockup on the barrel. This 7th Installment was written while at Camp just outside Jacinto Mississippi August 7th, 1862. This is just a while before & a short distance from the Second Battle of Corinth where the author of these letters took command of the 48th Indiana Volunteer Infantry once its commander had been killed. He led the 48th on a charge which was instrumental in Victory. This act of Bravery later earned him The Congressional Medal of Honor. He writes about it being the hottest day of the season and during a move of 14 miles, they lost four horses & several soldiers got heat stroke. He stayed back at a previous camp to turn over property to another officer then leaving at night with his orderly & Lt. Colonel Holman. He writes that they stopped to feed & water their horses at 1 A.M. then get some sleep with their clothes on hiding away in a corn field. The letter also states there was no battle there at the time but there were scattered bands of Guerillas who were picking off stragglers throughout the area, so travel was always a cautious concern. He also tells Lizzie (wife) he has only received 2 letters from her since he left & to write often. Here’s an Odd One for you. This Winchester ’73 was Born in 1890. That’s not the Weird Part, this is a Very Unusual Round-Barrel Mid-length Magazine ’73 most probably in 44 WCF. A closer look reveals this gun has had some very vintage work done on it quite a while ago. There are vice & clamp marks on the receiver, barrel & tube magazine. The bottom of the barrel has been machined out all the way to the muzzle to accommodate a full-length magazine. Last but not least, the gun has been fitted with sling loop mounted directly to the barrel. The stock has been repaired with screws due to cracks. This is a Turkish Ankara M1938 pattern Mauser bolt action rifle chambered in 8mm Mauser. Built similar in design to Gew 98s and sometimes German or Czech re-arsenaled rifles, the Turks used these rifles for many years and throughout a handful of conflicts. Robust and easy to operate, these Mauser rifles have been on the US commercial market as surplus rifles since the 1960s and have always been an affordable milsurp rifle that collectors and sport shooters gravitated to. This example is dated 1949 and appears to be in good working order. The Rifle appears to have originally been a German Gew98 as evidenced by the trigger guard including a sling swivel and various WWI era Imperial German proof marks present throughout. This this 4-Sided 8th Installment is quite the Letter. It was written in Moscow Tennessee on November 24, 1862. This letter starts out with some good news, The Lieutenant finally received a 3rd letter from Lizzie! The Letter also describes how he played a joke on his Captain. It explains that Lt. Archer went to General Grant’s HQ to try to get the Captain orders from Grant to go back to Indianapolis to pick up recruits. When he returns to camp, he tells the Captain it is “no go”, he is not going. All the while he had the orders from Grant in his pocket. When he finally told the Captain he had the orders, he writes” I don’t think I ever saw a happier man in my life than he was”. The letter also states Gen. Hamilton had written a letter to Gov. Morton (Indiana) “strongly recommending my promotion to a Lieut. Colonel(ey)”. He further writes “of course I will not get it”. He states even the best of field recommendations don’t mean anything, “the Governors appointment men for political reasons”. He will be very happy to have this recommendation on his record. On top of that bad news, he also writes they have no current Pay Master so he doesn’t know when he can send more money. He expresses his concern for his wife & her wellbeing and ends up this letter with “you must not get the blues”. Who even knew that was term back then. This is a great example of the Droplock Action which they are known for. The case hardening on the receiver is still crisp and deeply blue and purple. The two 29 Inch barrels are complemented by an intricate knurling along the rib and topped by an incredibly visible white bead. This shotgun is incredible fortunate to retain the bespoke red-velvet lined leather carrying case. The Serial Number puts the production range of this shotgun between 1912 & 1922. The length of pull is a comfortable 14”. This shotgun would be just as at home in a museum as it would be in the field. Easily one of the most iconic US military rifles ever made, the M1 Garand served admirably during the Second World War and Korean conflict. Chambered in the powerful .30-06 Springfield cartridge, the M1 Garand was one of the first truly successful semi auto battle rifles to be used in any significant numbers, and capable of accuracy far beyond what was expected of semi autos of the era. This reputation for accuracy gave birth to the “National Match” M1 Garand being created in the early 50s, featuring an improved NM marked sight, extra care when hand fitting the NM marked op rod & gas block, as well as a stock specifically selected for superior grain. The barrels were also selected for their straightness by air gauging, and the receiver was bedded into the stock. This example is all complete and fortunate enough to be in excellent condition. The Silver striking of the John Adams Indian Peace Medal was produced between 1825 and 1829 (during the presidency of John Adams son, president John Quincy Adams). No Indian Peace Medals with president John Adam's likeness were issued during his term as presiden. This example is one of the more “Common” yet still exceptionally scarce larger 76mm medals. The FN 1922 is an improvement on the earlier FN Model 10, with a lengthened barrel and longer frame, to accommodate 2 extra rounds. When Germany occupied Belgium in WW2, they took over production at FN and continued to make these for their own use, designating them the 626b. This example was likely made just after occupation, as it sports the checkered wooden grips the Germans began using in 1942, but no waffenamts. The Model 1903 saw use as the standard issue infantry rifle in American military service from 1903-36, and remained in service until 1975. This example was manufactured by Remington and has an RA barrel dated 9-43. The 03-A3 Was a modification of the 1903 with a rear aperture sight closer to that on an M1 Garand. This The rifle has been re-parkerized, which was very common when re-arsenaling rifles post-war. The Stock appears to be a CMP replacement and the letters have been white-filled. This 9th Letter was written on January 7th, 1863. This letter shows a very despondent First Lieutenant James W. Archer. Written just 6 Days after the “Proclamation of Lincoln” he has become tired of what the sole reason for the war has degenerated to. He writes it has “ruined the hopes of the Army”. He also states he wants out and writes “if resignations would be accepted, nine in every ten (officers) would resign”. He also states he’s going to try to get a “Surgeon’s Certificate” in order to be able to resign. The whole tone of this letter is one of him feeling the entire Union Army had been misled & fooled. He basically wants out & out now. Ironically, this letter of dejectedness & disgust is one of the few written on Official US embossed stationery. One of the most iconic handguns in the 20th century, the Luger was a robust, mechanically fascinating, and very successful pistol made in Germany. The P08 designation comes from the German military who issued the pistol for service primarily during WW1 and into WW2 with limited military issue. This example was manufactured for export, sporting “Germany” stamped in English on both the frame and the magazine floorplate. Pistol is chambered in 7.65 araellum, often also called .30 Luger. This 10th & Final Installment Letter was written on the Steamer Liberty near Evansville, Indiana on May 2nd, 1863. The Lieutenant seems to have out of his despair, if not out of the Army. It states he got a letter from Gen. Buford “introducing me to Gen. Asboth at Columbus, and endorsing the loyalty of my cousin”. The Letter further states he went down to Columbus & found “J. B.” there. He presented the Letter got his cousin discharged. He writes there was a $16,000 bond but he is alright now and on the boat. He states he should be home soon & again proclaiming his love belongs to her. Although this is the last letter, in this very compelling Saga, History tells us 1st Lieutenant James W. Archer lived on to have 2 more children & received the Congressional Medal of Honor on the 2nd of August, 1897. He passed away on the 28th of January, 1908, at the age of 79. The Lahti L-35 is a Finnish Military pistol designed by legendary gunsmith Aimo Lahti, as a pistol that could be produced domestically and work reliably in the extreme cold of the Finnish Lapland. An aspect of this is the addition of a bolt accelerator, more common in construction of machine guns to speed rate of fire. The bolt accelerator in a Lahti is presented in the form of a crank lever which strikes the bolt of the pistol as it unlocks from firing, making a mechanical force aid in cycle of the action rather than simply relying on the momentum generated by the fired cartridge to cycle the action by itself. The pistol looks similar visually to the luger P08, already in Finnish service by the time of the commission of the L-35, but operates in a very different manner; with a concealed single action only hammer and a reciprocating bolt rather than a toggle. Valmet Produced these from 1946-52. This example is in excellent condition and comes with 1 magazine.
