4 1/8" Red Tiped Dalton (Broke & Glued) found in Pettis County, Missouri w/ COA. From Arkansas to Iowa we see a good number of red tiped daltons. They are usually smaller. When the stone was a little tough the indians would lightly heat treat bladed down bifaces to allow them to more easily flake their blades without losing much tensil strength. When the stone was yellow or brown the outside of the blade would turn red so when they finished the dalton if they got close enough to the edge the point or blade would complete with a red tip and often with red ears if they kept the length of the stone when making it. This is an excellent example of one of those daltons. It is broken and glued in the middle as shown in the photos. Very nice study and display piece. Ex George Wolf Collection. 101 Wild West Show Beadwork Knife & Sheath. This knife and sheath were reportedly a prop used in the 101 Shows in the early 1900's. It is in excellent condition. Very minor restoration needed as shown in photos where bird bone beads and bead dangles need replaced. Here is some information about the 101 Wild West Show from showmansmuseum.org - "The 101 Ranch was a sprawling 110,000 acres of leased Indian lands that spread across four counties. It was founded in 1879 by Col. George W. Miller, a Confederate veteran. The 101 was a working showplace, self sufficient and employed thousands of people." "There were close to 80,000 people on the ranch opening day with the first Wild West Show. And no wonder what with such attractions as the Apache prisoner Geronimo, Buffalo Bill, Tom Mix, Bill Pickett and Lucille Mulhall, plus a buffalo hunt and barbecue, Indian sports and dancing, riding and roping contests, bands and a gigantic parade." "The 101 Ranch Wild West Show lasted 35 years. From 1905 to 1939 the 101 Ranch Real Wild West Show thrilled audiences and gave life to a bygone era." There is a world of information on this show which traveled the world and was based out of Oklahoma in the first part of the 1900's. It is likely the Oglala Lakota who were known for being "Show Indians" that made this beadwork sheath and knife. The knife is one piece of steal wrapped in rawhide. Knife measures 13 1/8". Extinct Occidentalis Bison Skull found in SW Iowa. Bison occidentalis is an extinct species of bison that lived in North America, in continental Eurasia and the Japanese archipelago from about 11,700 to 5,000 years ago, spanning the end of the Pleistocene to the mid-Holocene. This specimen was found washed out in a river where it cut in to an ancient lake bed in Iowa. It measures 31 inches from tip end to tip end. 42" Fossil Mastodon Tusk Found in Northern Missouri by Jeff Gower in 2009. The flood of 2008 was a great year for fossil hunting in areas where they are found. Minor floods in the following year lodged this tusk in a Willow thicket on a sand bar where Jeff and friends were camping that night. He was sent out to look for firewood (after dark without a light) and saw the end of the tusk sticking out of the sand. Thinking it was wood he pulled it out of the sand for the camp fire. When one of the other guys shined the light on it everyones jaws droped! That day Jeff had already found 9 arrowheads skunking the competition and was forced to walk behind the others for the next day while relic hunting....and he still found 3 more! It goes without saying tusks are extremely rare to find intact or even near intact. From our area it is the only one we are aware of that has been found nearly intact. It has approximately 5 inches of restoration on the tip (may be as little as 3 on one side where a section remained going closer to the tip). There are often Mammoth Tusks that come up for sale but Mastodon Tusks are a different deal. They are far more rare than the mammoth tusks. The length on this tusk is 42" straight line measurement from tusk end to tusk end. Following its curvature the measurement is around 45" Ancient Authentic

23" Extinct Eastern Elk Horn found in SW Iowa. This Elk Shed would have worked for a tool or weapon for ancient native Americans. It washed out of a river bank where an ancient lake bed once stood. Where it was found many extinct species of fossils are found. The last reported live elk in Iowa was in 1871. What little that is known about this race of elk has been gleaned from remains and historical references. It measures 23" w/ the long intact tine measuring approximately 11". The base of the antlers where they met the skull is approx 3 1/2" This was likely a shed lost by the animal as it does not appear to have been attached to the skull or any skull bone remnents. 10 1/2" Mammoth Tooth found in Northern Missouri by Rodney Gray. This tooth appears to have been found in two pieces and glued back together. That happens on fresh washouts sometimes. Ancient Authentic

13" Caribou Billet Found in SW Iowa. This certainly appears to be a billet. The hammer/heavy end is rounded from use or wear. The area where it washed out in SW Iowa is rich in Paleo that wash out in to the rivers in that part of the country. This horn is likely from the late pleistocene as Caribou were present during that period in Iowa. The heavy sandstone build up on it also suggests as much. Of course there is the chance that mother nature wore the hammer end to how it is but the base of the bone where you would hold it does not have the same effect. This is either an extremely ancient tool or one that mother nature fabricated to appear as such. Caribou is one of the toughest horns that exists to be used as a tool by Native Americans throughout the ages. Ancient Authentic

8 1/4" Extinct Occidentalis Bison Vertebrae. Bison occidentalis is an extinct species of bison that lived in North America, in continental Eurasia and the Japanese archipelago from about 11,700 to 5,000 years ago, spanning the end of the Pleistocene to the mid-Holocene. This specimen was found washed out in a river where it cut in to an ancient lake bed in Iowa. Ancient Authentic

Set of Extinct Occidentalis Bison Horns found in SW Iowa. Often the skull isnt saveable on Giant Bison Skulls when they wash out of ancient lakes and bogs. This set of horns came from the same bison. Old Horse Hoof Found in SW Iowa. Ok so this isnt as old as the other listings but it is something a bit different and odd. On occasion fossil hunters stumble across one of these. They are not from the three toed horse or another breed of ancient horse. Most likely 1700's to recent times. It does have an old look to it though from being in a river for a very long time.
